京都へいきました。
2月と3月をまたいで、京都にある総合地球環境学研究所にいってきました。金沢大学の長尾先生に招待され、「半島の現状と未来」というシンポジウムに参加しました。半島をただのフィールドとして、研究・調査するのではなく、半島そのものを研究することが重要だと訴える内容でした。鹿大の国際島嶼教育研究センターとにたような発想だなと感じました。その後の交流会で、いろいろともりあがり、津波にまきこまれたようであったが、今年度から強力することになりました。ま、能登半島周辺の海にもぐれるので、いいかな。とにかく、自分の波浪と藻類にかんする様々な仮説を調べる機会が増えたのがうれしいです。

On the last day of February, I went to the Research Institute for Humanity and Nature in Kyoto, since I was invited by Prof. Nagao to attend their symposium regarding the present and future of peninsular regions. The basic idea of their research was to study the peninsula wholly, rather than use it as a field-site. To me, the idea is similar to the Kagoshima Univerisity's Research Center for Pacific Islands. Everyone was all giddy and excited during the after-symposium dinner (too much beer & sake), and I felt like I wiped-out on a tsunami. It looks like I will be doing some work with them. I guess all is well since I was always interested in taking a look at the macrophytes growing along the Noto Peninsula. As long as I can explore hypotheses regarding waves and macrophytes, geographic location shouldn't matter much.
