久しぶりに3連休をとっていて、久しぶりにTVをよくみている。ところが、気になる表現がよく、TVにながれているね。「ハッピーメリークリスマス」ってどいうこと？「ハッピー」と「メリー」をこのように、なれべることは珍しいね。
「メリー」は"Merry"。【形容詞】 陽気な、愉快な、笑い楽しむ、お祭り気分の、浮かれた
「ハッピー」は"Happy"。【形容詞】 うれしい、幸せそうな
どちらも形容詞です。"Have a happy and Merry Christmas"なら、まだわかる。
やっぱり、あまりTVみない方がいいかも。
ところで、今年から長崎大学で大学院の改組をしました。あらたに、5年一貫性の博士コースをたちあげた。ある程度の奨学金っもでます。藻類の生理生態学に興味のあるかたは、僕に連絡を。リンクはこちら。
I finally took 3 days off. When was the last time I took 3 days off? So, I've been watching alot of TV, and there is a lot of crap on TV. Indeed, there is a persistent Japlish phrase that is a tad irritating. "Happy Merry Christmas". First time I've ever heard this before, and it sounds dumb. Perhaps putting an "and" between happy and merry would make it sound much better.

Just to plug our new Graduate school... At Nagasaki University, we have reorganized our Graduate School of Science and Technology. The engineering folks split off, and the fisheries and environment graduate faculty combined. Besides the traditional 2+3 MS and PhD program, we have an integrated 5 year PhD program. This new program provides funding and aims to develop internationally oriented researchers with a focus on "field science". Follow the link for more information.
