今日は魚市場の見学

水路実験を新4年生に任せた
今年から、はじめて４年生がついた。テーマはだいたいきまったので、先週金曜日から毎日データを取っている。 測定している項目は酸素度、pH、塩分濃度、光と水温。 本人は日焼けしたくないので、いつもこんな感じで測定している。頑張ってね。シーズンはあと2-3ヶ月で終わるよ。 Published with Blogger-droid v1.6.8
ちょっとしたワカメ
干潮時が近かったので、センターの近くでワカメを採集。何よりも、Kべ研のIばさんの質問が印象的。"海水に浸かっているのに何でこのワカメしょっぱくないの"とか"海水にだしがでないのか"とか。 ジョークででょう？ The low tide was approaching, so we decided to go collect some wakame ( Undaria pinnatifida ). All during the sampling, Ms. I from Dr. K's lab peppered me with questions, such as "Why doesn't the wakame get salty even though it's been in salt water?" and "Does the surrounding water take up the flavors from the wakame?" 5年一貫制の初めての乗船実習
4月から3人の大学生が5年一貫制の大学院生になった。この乗船実習はフィールド研究者になるための第一歩。5日間有明海や男女群島沖でトロールや海洋観測を行う予定。3人のために3人の先生+α。贅沢だ。 ちなみに、九大の大学院生も乗っています(彼らも実習)。 So, from this April, we got 3 students enrolled in the new 5 year PhD program. This is their first time at sea, where they'll earn the sea-legs and get one-step close to becoming "real" field scientists. I think they will be out in the Ariake Sea and Near Danjo Gunto for at least 5 days learning to do some oceanographic work (e.g., CTD casts and trawls). For 3 students at least 3 professors also boarded the ship. What luck. By the way, graduate students from Kyushu University are also on-board for their training. Published with Blogger-droid v1.6.8

無事にサンプリング
予定としていたポイントでは、1m以上の波があった。僕は一人だったら平気で入るが、今回学生がいたので、遠慮した。臨時の海水浴のポイントにはいった。予想以上に藻類が多かった。明月のチャンポンも食べれて、結果的にいい調査になった。 We couldn't go to the site I planned to go to, since the waves were about 1 m. Although, if I was alone, I probably would have went in. Students, if you know what I mean. Anyways, we went to a much safer site behind a wave breaker, and there was much more macrophytes than I expected. All in all, we were able to eat some chanpon and get some work done. 苓北町へ
今日の天気はひどいが、苓北町にいきます。今回は4年生の木村くんとスケットできてくれたK邊研のクスメギさん。うまくいけば、大きくなったノコギリモクがとれるはず。山田さん、は就活から戻ってきたら、忙しくなるね。 The weather is terrible, but we will go to Reihoku-machi today. This time around, one of my students and another student from Dr. K's lab will be going too. If we get lucky, we should be able to get some Sargassum macrocarpum . I have another student, but she's busy looking for a job after graduation. All I know is that she will be busy after we get back. Published with Blogger-droid v1.6.8
新学期
新学期が始まった。今年から二人の3年生がついて、とても嬉しいですが、教えたいものがありすぎて、大変です。一人はフィールド、一人はラボ（屋外水槽）実験。どちらにも僕のメインの研究の部分をあげちゃった。大丈夫かな。 さらに、今年からセンターで統計学ゼミナールを開催した。今日が初めてのゼミだったので、多分学生は大変だったとおもう。ついていけるのかな。それが心配だ。 来週は苓北町にいって、サンプリング。またデータをとらないとね。後数ヶ月でシーズンがおわる。 よくわからないが、結構忙しく感じる。
